My best friend, Bug bought me an amplifier device that is intended to hear the babies heartbeats when she came out to visit around 18 weeks. This device is not like a doppler, as it only amplifies the sounds within the uterus, it works more like a stethoscope. When I first tried to use it at 18 weeks I could hear some noises, which were either kicking or my intestines - I couldn't tell. So I amused myself by strapping it to the dog and listening to her heart beat. The dog was not amused by this activity AT ALL.
Now I can use it to hear Baby A's heart beat. Since Baby A is trapped down at the bottom it cannot get away once I locate the heart beat. Baby B on the other hand doesn't stay in one place long enough for me to catch the heart beat this way. Instead, Baby B responds to the pressure of the monitor being strapped over my stomach by kicking the crap out of it. I love that they already have distinct personalities.
Oddly I feel kind of guilty though when I am doing this. It seems like I am invading their private time. It's fun though.
