That Was a Mistake Tuesday

So this one is not funny. But I am here to serve and explaining why this nor former household item sucked so much is really important.

My husband and I own a house that was built in the 1920's. It is plaster on brick (read: not insulated). Our heating system is an old oil burner. Radiator heat is great in the middle of the winter when it is negative-three degrees outside, but it is overkill in the Spring and the Fall when the weather is mild during the days and cool at night. Either the house is heated or it is freezing and drafty. So when we registered for wedding gifts I registered us for a space heater.

I know that space heaters can be dangerous. But after doing a ton of research, I felt secure using a new one, when I was home, if it was not near curtains.

After our babies were born the space heater became even more awesome. They loved the heat and even better they loved the constant white noise.

It was the world's greatest instant nap, and we used it to warm the bathroom before bath time, and to dry out the bathroom after bath time.

One night after bath time, I went into the bathroom to pull out the cord and the plug felt super hot, so hot in fact, that I used the hand towel to pull it out of the wall. That was a good choice because it had melted into the outlet and was charred. It is impossible to express the fear that I felt. If I had plugged the heater in our babies' room it could have easily started a fire. I cannot even think about how lucky we are.
Before we threw it our I had my husband cut the cord off of it so that someone else wouldn't happen upon it and use it too.
