It's been awhile

I was in Target over the weekend and a woman walked up to me and asked, "are they twins"? And I responded, "yes." I was getting all excited for the typical follow-up question about whether they are identical or not--because finally I know--and she asked the most dreaded multiples question of all ... "are they natural"? I replied, "as opposed to what"? And she said (I am not making this up), "you know, those petri dish babies."
Seriously?
A.R.E Y.O.U F.U.C.I.N.G K.I.D.D.I.N.G M.E.?
I answered her politely, "No ma'am, we made them the old fashioned way, in the back set of our car." So it was an educational experience for all of us.

  1. Just curious....but were you mad at the lady because you dont want anybody to think that you did fertility treatments or because it shouldnt matter how they were conceived.

Feel free to answer candidly. You won't offend me. :)

  3. I was mad because as a mother of multiples I have learned that people believe that they can ask you any sort of question about your personal medical history that interests them and do so in Target. (I blame Kate Gosselin for this). I am also generally pissed off about the suggestion that any baby might not be "natural."

I could care less whether people think that I did IVF. One of my best friends conceived her singleton through IVF 10 days before I conceived the boys. When I think about what she went through to have her daughter I am humbled and amazed.
