The final days of being a baby

Dear Hamilton,

I promised that I would write you one more letter too, before you turn one, and I am getting this one in just under the wire.

Tomorrow you and Owen will be baptized in the church where your father and I married each other. Your father and I, as well as our family, and friends will make tremendous promises to you and your brother. We will promise to help guide you in the most important relationship of your lives - one with God. God will be making a promise too. Baptism is a sacrament, Hamilton, one of the few times that God's earthly presence is felt. Personally, I would like to believe that we baptize babies because they are innocent enough to feel God's presence and love for them.

I know that God already loves you and your brother far more than your father and I ever could. And your father and I love you and Owen more than we could ever explain. Preparing for your baptism has reminded me that God loves me that much too. And that humbles me, which is something that I always need.

Something else that I always need is to see your sweet smile, my sweet boy. I love you so - you will always be my baby boy.

Love,

Momma
